Massachusetts Medical Society (USA) Adopts Landmark “One Health” oriented Resolution   ‘Collaboration between Human Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and the Environmental Sciences’   In December 2011 the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) adopted a landmark policy supporting the importance of collaboration between human medicine, veterinary medicine and the environmental sciences and encouraging dialogue between human medical, veterinary medical, and environmental sciences professionals to identify opportunities to work together in the areas of medical education, clinical care, public health and biomedical research.   This was reported to the One Health Initiative website team by Steven A. Ringer, MD, PhD, vice-chairman of the MMS public health committee.  The original sponsors of the resolution were Kathleen Gensheimer, MD, MPH, Leonard Marcus, VMD, MD and Gary Kraus, MD, all notable One Health supporters/advocates.  Dr. Gensheimer is a member of the One Health Initiative Autonomous pro bono team’s Honorary Advisory Board http://www.onehealthinitiative.com/advBoard.php.   The Florida Medical Association was the first state medical association to adopt a One Health resolution in July 2011.  Among other professional organizations, the American Medical Association adopted a One Health resolution in June 2007.  Additional national and international supporting organizations are listed on the One Health Initiative website http://www.onehealthinitiative.com/supporters.php.
