One Health Initiative will unite human and veterinary medicine

In collaborative public service association with:

The One Health Initiative is a movement to forge co-equal, all inclusive collaborations between physicians, osteopathic physicians, veterinarians, dentists, nurses, and other scientific-health and environmentally related disciplines, with over 114 national and international organizations including the American Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Nurses Association, American Association of Public Health Physicians, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the U.S. National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). Additionally, more than 1200 prominent scientists, physicians, and veterinarians worldwide have endorsed the initiative.

Note: The One Health Initiative team operates autonomously (independently) as a group of private individuals. It conducts its One Health promotional activities and this website autonomously, pro bono in collaborative public service with Public Health Vaccines LLC.

Public Health Vaccines proudly sponsors and endorses the One Health Initiative in its pro bono efforts to promote the One Health concept of a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to address all aspects of health care including emerging and zoonotic diseases. One Health is an integrated, collaborative approach that recognizes the deep interdependence between the health of people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. It seeks to bridge human medicine, veterinary medicine, and the environmental sciences in surveillance, research, prevention, and control of zoonotic diseases with complex life cycles and is now established as a mainstream component of public health. As of 2026, all priority diseases included on the WHO Blueprint list of Priority Diseases1 are zoonotic diseases which underscores the importance of the One Health approach. Nipah virus disease, for which PHV is developing a vaccine, is a prime example of the need to coordinate veterinary, human, and wildlife disease experts to best address global health threats. About One Health – Dr. Laura Kahn

Dr. Kahn is a physician, policy researcher, educator, and author. For 15 years, she was a research scholar in the Program on Science and Global Security at Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University. Her education and training encompass nursing, medicine, public health, and public policy.
