INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION ON AGEING (IFA) Recognizes Health Value of “Human-animal bond”, a One Health Umbrella* Inclusion   Companion Animals and the Health of Older Persons: International Day of Friendship July 30th is the International Day of Friendship, which was first proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly. The goal of the International Day of Friendship is to build bridges between communities by encouraging friendship and peace efforts between people, cultures, countries and individuals. The relationship between people and companion animals has a long standing history, and has been documented throughout different cultures around the world. The “human-animal bond” is a mutually beneficial, dynamic relationship between people and animals, that has proven benefits for emotional, social, physical and psychological health.
