Veterinarians and Human health providers often deal similar diseases and that would stand a better chance of treatment with improved communication between the two professions.

Michael Wilkes, MD, PhD

Michael Wilkes is Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He recently stepped down as Vice Dean at the School of Medicine and is now Director of Global Health. For most of Wilkes' career as a doctor he lived and worked in Los Angeles.

At UCLA he was a founder of UCLA's innovative Doctoring Curriculum which now serves as a model for UC Davis School of Medicine and many other medical schools domestically and internationally. Dr.Wilkes works frequently with medical schools and public health systems in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

He is also an active education and health services researcher working in the area of medical education, technology assisted learning, clinical genetics, doctor-patient communication, end of life care, and conflicts of interest in medicine.

Wilkes is trained in internal medicine and has had additional training in adolescent medicine and public health.

He is an award winning journalist having worked for the New York Times, ABC News, CBS News, and The Los Angeles Times, and of course his more than 20 years in public radio!
