“On behalf of the American Society for Microbiology, thank you for the opportunity to comment on the zero draft of the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance. With more than 37,000 members around the globe, ASM’s vision is to proactively harness the power of microbes to solve humanity’s most pressing challenges, of which AMR is one.

ASM applauds the Quadripartite for the inclusion of 1) robust, sustainable financing for innovative research, development and deployment of diagnostics and new antimicrobials for both veterinary and human use; 2) policies that incentivize strengthening antibiotic and diagnostic supply chains and stewardship across sectors; 3) raising awareness of AMR morbidity and mortality and the need for a multifaceted approach to combating AMR that includes behavior change; 4) strengthening global prevention efforts including WASH and vaccination campaigns; 5) championing robust One Health diagnostic networks and surveillance systems; and 6) a focus on multidisciplinary, cross-sectional research into antimicrobial resistance within the zero draft of the second edition of the GAP on AMR. It is imperative that these strategic objectives are maintained as the GAP on AMR is finalized.  ...”
