With its opening editorial, made available online 23^rd of November 2023 (1), the Journal of Global, Public and One Health (JGPOH), has been welcoming contributions on the global health sciences, population health, public health and the health services, as well as papers on planetary and one health, from all over the world. The JGPOH work has come timely as the world is facing what is referred to as “polycrisis era: the convergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating global conflicts, economic instability and climate change” (2). Such crises are affecting public health (3) and hence the health of our planet (4).

Tackling these challenges requires: global solidarity; strengthening resilience of our health systems; promoting the use of digital technologies, while ensuring that strategies are put in place to prevent side effects from the technologies (in terms of design of the technologies, and their use/implementation) such as inequalities, biases, and other harms (5); as well as, capacitating the younger generations - generations Z (6) and Alpha (7) to cope with the current and emerging challenges so as to ensure a better future for our planet and next generations (8).

The outbreak of Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which has spread to other countries leading to declarations by the: Africa Centers for Disease Control (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as a “public health emergency” (9), has once again reminded us of the need for solidarity in addressing a global challenge such as Mpox.

The One Health approach has shown potential of helping countries to address existing challenges (10). Hence, JGPOH aims to engage with practitioners and researchers from all over the world to harness public and One Health.

Reimagining the future of JGPOH

• Although the English version is legally the only relevant for all texts in JGPOH, the journal started to provide translations into other languages, e.g., French German, Portuguese and Spanish, in order to allow readers around the world to understand the intended message from papers published in the JGPOH. Indeed, translation of the articles into other languages is crucial to enhance global accessibility and ensure that readers worldwide can fully grasp the intended message and various nuances of published papers, fostering broader engagement and understanding.
• Continue with efforts to promote Global Health, Public Health and One Health (10) for a better future of our world. This is essential for addressing the interconnected health of people, animals, and the environment, ultimately leading to a healthier and more sustainable future for all. Also, this enables holistic approaches to disease prevention, ecosystem preservation, and resource management, which are critical for achieving long-term sustainability and well-being for all species.
• Working with a global community to ensure that we work together in research as well as in discussions that will enable the world to navigate around tumultuous situations for a safe and better future (11). As a matter of fact, engaging with the global community in joint research and dialogue strengthens our ability to tackle complex global issues, fostering cooperation that paves the way for a more secure and prosperous future. This also takes note of the role of spiritual leaders in the era of multiple crises (12). We acknowledge the crucial influence of spiritual leaders, as they offer guidance, foster community resilience, and provide moral support, helping individuals and societies navigate uncertainty and challenge with compassion and unity.
