The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding marking a collective commitment to reduce plastic waste within hospitals and health centers across Cambodia. This strategic partnership aims to institutionalize eco-friendly practices within the medical sector, ensuring that healthcare providers play a central role in the nation’s broader environmental protection efforts.

During the signing ceremony, Minister of Health His Excellency Chheang Ra highlighted the importance of the One Health framework, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental well-being. He noted that the new agreement will act as a roadmap for healthcare facilities nationwide, including private providers, to drastically scale back the use of non-medical plastics. By doing so, the health sector aims to contribute significantly to maintaining a hygienic and sustainable environment throughout the Kingdom.

Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, expressed that this collaboration is a vital component of the government’s mission to foster a clean, green, and pollution-free Cambodia. He emphasised that the participation of the health sector strengthens the impact of the ongoing environmental campaign, Today I Will Not Use Plastic. To date, this initiative has already successfully mobilised over 8 million participants, including students, factory workers, and citizens from all walks of life, fostering a nationwide culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship.
