Re: IAMP ‘One Health’ endorsing statement

With its network of 73 of the world's medical academies and medical sections of academies of science and engineering, the InterAcademy Medical Panel (IAMP) [http://www.iamp-online.org/] is committed to improving health world-wide, especially in low- and middle-income countries. By convening these 73 member academies, IAMP also brings a wealth of expertise to international discussions on health.

The globalization of trade and the increasing inter-connectedness of people via international travel provide pathogens with many opportunities for spreading. Meanwhile, increasing human populations are putting pressure on agricultural and natural landscapes to provide more food – with increasing contacts between people, domestic animals and wildlife. Add to this the trend for more and more people to live in cities with urban lifestyles, and the frequent inequities of healthcare provision between the rich and poor, then it is clear that a holistic view of world health is required.

For these reasons, we are very pleased to endorse the One Health Initiative and look forward to developing integrated solutions to the challenges affecting the health of people, animals and our environment.

 Best regards,

 IAMP co-chairs
