Investing in One Health approaches can deliver significant benefits for human, animal, plant and ecosystem health. However, demonstrating their economic and societal value remains a challenge, often limiting the resources available for multisectoral action.
Economic evaluation can help address this gap by providing evidence of the costs, benefits and return on investment of One Health interventions, supporting more informed policy and investment decisions.
To strengthen capacity in this area, the Quadripartite collaboration – FAO, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Health Organization (WHO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) – has developed an online course evaluating the value of One Health, in partnership with Cirad and the World Bank.
Hosted by FAO's Virtual Learning Centres, the self-paced five module course is designed for professionals with little or no prior experience in economic evaluation. It introduces key concepts and practical methods for assessing the value of One Health approaches and applying economic evidence to decision-making.
The webinar will introduce the course structure, content and learning approach, explore the importance of economic evaluation for One Health, and feature experiences and insights from participants who completed an earlier release of the course.
Participants will also learn how to access the course and engage with the Community of Practice to exchange knowledge and experiences with other One Health practitioners.
Who should attend?
The webinar is open to anyone interested in understanding and demonstrating the value of One Health, including policymakers, technical professionals, researchers, programme managers and other stakeholders working across sectors.
The course was developed with financial support from the Gates Foundation and UK International Development from the UK government.
