New Chief Editor Assumes Leadership of Internationally Popular One Health Newsletter (USA)

 

March 8, 2012—The One Health Newsletter’s editorial board announced that Elizabeth Radke, MPH has assumed the Chief Editor position.  Ms. Radke has been serving as Assistant Editor of the newsletter with Chief Editor Mary Echols, DVM, MPH.

 

Ms. Radke, an epidemiologist, is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Florida in the Department of Epidemiology and Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI). She has performed studies on dengue fever in Key West, FL (USA) and ciguatera fish poisoning in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

 

Elizabeth received her Master of Public Health (MPH) in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Animal Sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2006.  She worked at the Florida Department of Health as the vector-borne disease epidemiologist where she coordinated surveillance and educational efforts. In 2009, she organized satellite broadcasts on Influenza and Rift Valley Fever.

 

As a research assistant, Elizabeth has worked at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and the University of Florida Emerging Pathogens Institute. She has also presented on epidemiology and One Health at the University of Florida, Case Western Reserve University, the North American Congress of Epidemiology, Florida Environmental Health Association, and the Florida Mosquito Control Association.

 

As the new Chief Editor of the One Health Newsletter, Ms. Radke says, “The One Health Newsletter is a publication dedicated to the demonstration of One Health in practice.  I look forward to my new role and am an enthusiastic supporter/advocate for One Health.”

 

Dr. Mary Echols, founder and Chief Editor of the One Health Newsletter (OHNL) http://www.onehealthinitiative.com/newsletter.php, advised the Newsletter’s editorial board that although leaving this position she will continue to support the OHNL’s efforts in the role of Associate Editor.  Dr. Echols is an Environmental Consultant with the Palm Beach County Florida (USA) Health Department.

 

The first quarterly One Health Newsletter issue was published online in the winter of 2008 under the auspices of the Florida State Department of Health’s Environmental Health Division (USA).  Dr. Echols is widely credited with developing and leading the Newsletter to its current level of prominence.  The Newsletter has consistently been among the top ten pages visited and read worldwide on the One Health Initiative website www.onehealthinitiative.com.
