The One Health Initiative (OHI) Autonomous Pro Bono Team has been and continues to be a primary driver of the One Health movement in 2026. It serves as an influential independent information clearinghouse that bridges the gap between scientific research and global policy.
The team's current effectiveness is characterized by its role as a strategic promoter and collaborator with major national and international bodies since its founding 2006-7 and since OHI website’s beginning October 2008.. It advocates “Ethics for One Health Approaches: A Roadmap for Future Directions” - One Health Initiative.
National & Global Influence
- Informational Clearinghouse: The team manages a widely utilized platform that serves as a critical resource for promoting "One Medicine" and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Policy Support: OHI Team advocacy has contributed to the successful implementation of the first National One Health Framework (2025–2029) in the United States, which coordinates 24 federal agencies to address zoonotic diseases.
- Global Advocacy: The team actively supports and disseminates findings from the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) and the Quadripartite collaboration (WHO, FAO, UNEP, WOAH), which advise governments on health security and pandemic preparedness.
- High-Level Representation: The OHI Team is integral to major 2026 events, such as the One Health Summit in Lyon, France, which convenes heads of state to translate One Health practice into multilateral frameworks.

- Educational Advancement: Through the One Health Education Task Force, the team influences K-12 and professional curricula to integrate the "One Health" concept early in scientific training. The OHI team works collaboratively with the One Health Commission.
- Emerging Disease Response: The team continues to facilitate the exchange of data on current threats, such as avian influenza and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), to improve early warning and response systems.
