Food has always brought us together. It nourishes our bodies, shapes our cultures, and fuels our economies.

Today, however, food moves across sectors and borders through supply chains that are longer and more complex than ever before. In this interconnected world, food lies at the heart of One Health – the recognition that human, animal, plant, and environmental health are deeply linked.

Yet one essential piece of this connection is often overlooked: food safety.

One Health depends on safe food. And safe food depends on One Health – on healthy people, healthy animals, and a healthy environment. Because when food is not safe, no one is truly healthy.

That’s why the One Health for Food Safety project advances a powerful, practical solution: integrating risk analysis into food safety systems.

Endorsed by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, risk analysis is a science-based framework used worldwide to identify, assess, and manage food-related risks. It helps governments prioritize action, allocate resources effectively, and build trust in their food systems.

With risk analysis at its core, FAO’s One Health for Food Safety project supports countries in building food systems that are safer, stronger, and more sustainable.

When we strengthen food safety, we don't just protect health. We strengthen economies, safeguard ecosystems, and build resilience.
