Wildlife Disease Association Endorses One Health

July 1, 2013—“It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the President of the Wildlife Disease Association www.wildlifedisease.org, Dr. Dolores Gavier-Widen [DVM, MS, PhD], and the Governing Council has authorized me to inform you that the Association officially endorses the One Health Initiative (OHI) and requests that the Association be added to the list of organizations that share the goals and philosophy of the OHI.  We believe that the Association and its members add an important dimension to the OHI with its focus on wild vertebrates, with implications for wildlife conservation and healthy wildlife populations, and for a deepening understanding of the role of wildlife reservoirs of pathogens of importance to domestic animal and human health as well.  These areas of the Association’s interest and concern are reflected in its journal --the Journal of Wildlife Diseases www.jwildlifedis.org/--and in its annual international conferences.”

Sincerely,
